Principal fisheries: Largemouth bass, chain pickerel
This shallow impoundment supports an abundance of dense aquatic vegetation The shoreline surrounding this pond is undeveloped and very picturesque, offering a truly unique “wilderness” fishing experience in one of Maine’s most densely populated areas.
Although a band of cold water occurs below 10 feet, dissolved oxygen levels are depressed and considered marginal for trout management. The presence of competing and predatory warmwater fish further reduces the suitability for coldwater fish management. Runaround Pond is managed for warmwater fisheries.
Public Boat access, consisting of a gravel ramp and adjacent parking, is located off the Runaround Pond Road on lands owned by the Department of Conservation. The Department of Conservation owns a considerable portion of land along the Pond’s southern shoreline.
Largemouth bass were introduced by MDIFW in 1988 to enhance fishing opportunities. Anecdotal angler reports suggest the largemouths have not become very abundant.
