South Pond contains a preponderance of warmwater fish. After resurveying the pond in 1968, a decision was made to undertake an experimental brown trout stocking program. Brown trout were selected because they often can provide a coldwater fishery when water quality is marginal and heavy competition from warmwater species exists. Unfortunately, the program was terminated after 9 years when failing to provide an adequate fishery.
Sea-run alewives spawn in South Pond where both species of bass probably utilize young-of-year alewives as forage. Although these alewives probably limit bass production, the alewives are utilized by bass as forage.
South Pond has a maintained boat launch facility located at Warren Station approximately 1 mile from U.S. Route 1.
