Adams Pond, commonly known as Rock Haven Lake, is located north of Route 11 in West Newfield. The Maine Department of Fisheries and Wildlife successfully introduced largemouth bass in 1967, and an excellent fishery now exists. An abundant population of juvenile perch and minnows provides an excellent forage base.
Black crappies were illegally introduced in the early 1990’s and are now providing an important fishery. Crappies feed extensively on small fish and compete directly with the bass for food.
Rock Haven is managed for warmwater fish species due to the lack of cool, well-oxygenated water available during the summer. Unscheduled brook trout are stocked occasionally to provide a winter or early spring fishery.
Public access to Rock Haven Pond is available only by permissive trespass, since there is not a public access site. A traditional site, located adjacent to the outlet, is still available for canoe or carry-in access. Purchasing and developing public access to this pond is a priority of this department.
