Black Pond Description

Black Pond was impounded by a dam around 1958. This shallow, warmwater pond is managed for existing warmwater fish species. Its convoluted shoreline, and twenty-eight islands provides ample habitat and gives the pond its unique character. In addition, the pond has only one camp, which provides a remote atmosphere.
This water lacks suitable cold, oxygenated water for salmonid management, but it is well suited for many warmwater gamefish. In 1960, the MDIFW introduced largemouth bass and they now provide an excellent self-sustaining fishery. Bass from 4 to 6 pounds are commonly reported and pickerel add some additional activity.
There is no public access to Black Pond, many anglers gain access from the road right-of-way off Spectacle Pond Road. The pond may also be accessed at the dam site by permissive trespass.
