Boulter Pond is one of several water supply ponds
located in the town of York. The property around
this man-made reservoir is owned by the Kittery
Water District, and unfortunately angler access is
currently prohibited. This pond could offer a
unique angling experience for the area, because its
undeveloped shorelines give it a remote appearance.
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and
Wildlife has been urging the water districts to
change their access policies for angling purposes
without success. If access was developed the pond
would be managed for warmwater fish species due to
the lack of suitable summer water quality for
sa1monids. Boulter Pond stratifies during the
summer months and a severe oxygen deficiency occurs
between 10 to 12 feet in depth.
In addition, MDIFW documented the presence of swamp
darters in Boulter Pond during a 1998 survey.
Swamp darters are listed as a threatened species in
the State of Maine.
