Deering Pond is located in the heavily populated Sanford-Springvale area. Late summer water quality is very good for resident warmwater fish. The pond
thermally stratifies during some years, but it develops an oxygen deficiency below the thermocline, which seasonally limits available habitat for coldwater fish.
Competition and predation from existing populations of warmwater fish further diminish the opportunity to manage for coldwater fish. Access is restricted to permissive trespass. There is a
need to develop public boat access to this water.
