Hurds Pond is a boggy weedy pond located in the southwest corner of Swanville. Surrounded in rolling farmlands, reverting forest, and upland swamp. The water
is .characterized as very darkly stained.
Although, brook trout were not collected during the survey they are included since both anglers and the local warden reported they are occasionally caught from the pond. These trout probably migrated from the pond's extensive tributary system. Poor water quality and the large number of competing species prevent a significant
trout fishery from developing. Local anglers expressed an interest in creating a
largemouth bass fishery. The Department stocked largemouth bass, obtained from a disease free source, for three years beginning in 1999. It is unknown whether these stockings established a bass population; anglers with information are encouraged to notify the Regional Fishery
office in Sidney.
There is no known deeded public access, but the pond can be reached from the West Swanville Road near the junction with the Oak Hill Road.
