Porter Lake in the western Maine mountains near Farmington, Rangeley, and Sugarloaf. Principal fishery: Landlocked salmon, lake trout, and chain pickerel Porter Lake is located west of the New Vineyard Mountains. A number of inlets enter the lake from all sides. Its outlet flows east into nearby Lily Pond. The lake’s shoreline is heavily developed. Water quality in Porter Lake is good for coldwater gamefish. Lake trout use the rocky shoreline to spawn and maintain a native population and fishery. A salmon fishery is provided with periodic stockings. Brook trout are also occasionally stocked to diversify fishing opportunities. Salmonid growth is slow with heavy competition for food and space. Porter Lake is accessible via a public launch site reached from the Taylor Hill Road. The lake is open to fishing under general law in both the summer and winter fishing seasons.
