Quantabacook Lake is a major headwater of the scenic st. George River. Anglers can
access this lake from a boat landing
located near Bartlett Stream off Route 3.
Quantabacook's extensive shallow, weedy
areas offer ideal habitat for a variety
of warmwater fishes. Largemouth bass,
which were introduced by Department
biologists in 1960, are particularly well
suited to these conditions. Largemouths
are well established and support an
excellent fishery, with many growing to
exceptional size. Smallmouth bass, white
perch, and chain pickerel are also present and provide good action for both
winter and summer anglers.
Brown trout were introduced experimentally
in 1986 with encouraging results. Browns are now stocked annually, adding a new dimension to Quantabacook' s already diverse fisheries.
