Crystal Pond, a beautiful small pond, has been
plagued for many years by a large population of stunted
smallmouth bass. In 1999, largemouth bass were found in
Crystal Pond, the result of an illegal stocking. The added
presence of largemouth bass will likely result in stunted
populations of both species.
An experimental brown trout stocking program was
initiated in 1967. Good results and the popularity of these
stockings warranted continuation and browns are now
stocked annually.
Stockings of legal-size brook trout began in 2004.
Spring yearlings are stocked to provide fast action for the early season angler while larger fall yearling brookies are
stocked to provide fall and winter anglers with a trout
fishery. These stockings are a direct result of improvements
made to the Department's hatchery system to increase the
number of fish available for stocking.
Crystal Pond has an unimproved boat landing
located on the north shore of the pond off the Crystal Pond
Road.
