Washington Pond, located in western Knox
County, is a major headwater of the
Medomak River. A state owned boat launch
is located off Route 105 at the pond's
southern end.
An experimental brown trout stocking
program was initiated in 1978. Results
have been acceptable and brown trout are
now stocked annually. Smelts have become
established from an introduction made by
Department biologists and should provide
excellent forage for browns. Smallmouth
bass are present in good numbers, though
the fish are not large. White perch and pickerel are abundant and provide good
action to those anglers who target them.
Anglers can assist the Department in
evaluating Washington Pond's management
program by keeping a dlary of their fishing
trips. Booklets suitable for maintaining a
fishing diary can obtained free of charge by
writing to'the Maine Department of Inland
Fisheries and Wildlife in Augusta, Maine.
