Principal fisheries: Smallmouth bass, chain pickerel
Island Pond maintains a well established population of smallmouth bass. In the past, the smallmouth fishery was noted for above-average-size bass. Largemouth bass have been reportedly been caught but is not yet confirmed. Undoubtedly, a negative impact on the smallmouth bass population will result if largemouth bass become established in any great numbers.
During the original survey the bass were not infected with the bass tapeworm parasite, a parasite causing poor growth in bass. Since largemouth bass are infected with bass tapeworm in nearly every Central Maine water it would appear likely that the bass in Island Pond will also become infected.
Chain pickerel and hornpout are also quite numerous.
An unimproved launch site is located on the east side of Island Pond off State Route 106.
