Grassy Pond is ideally suited for warmwater fish species. This shallow pond with extensive areas of emergent vegetation provides excellent habitat for largemouth bass. Largemouth bass were introduced in 1972 after a request from the public. Bass were transferred from Johnson Pond, a source known to be free from the bass tapeworm parasite. A very good bass fishery has now developed from this introduction of 75 fish.
Grassy Pond serves as a public water reservoir for the Rockport Camden area. The water company has proposed to repair the dam on Quiggle Brook and raise the water level for more storage. This increase will probably create additional bass habitat.
Access has been via a short trail located along Route 17, but with recent highway maintenance the small parking area was abolished. Negotiations are ongoing with the landowner to provide safe and reasonable access.
