Round Pond supports only enough pickerel to provide a
limited fishery. Only a limited warmwater fishery can be expected
in a three-acre pond with heavy competition between
species. There is only a given amount of food and space available
in a lake or stream. When only one kind of fish is present,
this fish is free to take advantage of all the food and space that
is available. If another fish is introduced, the available food
and space is reduced. As more species are introduced, competition
for food and space becomes greater and living conditions
become worse.
If Round Pond had a suitable volume of cold water with
desirable amounts of dissolved oxygen, a brook trout management
program could be planned. Since this is not the case,
Round Pond will ,continue to provide a limited warmwater
fishery.
